What exactly is VPS Hosting?

When comparing VPS and shared hosting, VPS is the more secure and stable option, as shared hosting does not provide you with a dedicated server space. However, it is on a smaller scale and less expensive than renting an entire server.

VPS hosting is typically chosen by website owners whose traffic exceeds the limits of shared hosting plans but does not necessitate the resources of a dedicated server.

When should you use a Virtual Private Server?

When should you use a Virtual Private Server?

Starting with a VPS plan from the beginning is a good idea. eCommerce websites, for example, that require secure payments in a fast and stable environment can greatly benefit from a virtual private server. In fact, if you store sensitive data or have to process online payments, a virtual private server (VPS) can help you reduce the risk of security breaches and identity theft.

A VPS hosting plan can also be beneficial if you anticipate traffic spikes on your site at specific times, such as in the case of an event planning or ticket-selling website. Game servers, such as CS:GO or Minecraft, and other resource-intensive websites perform much better on a virtual private server.

When is it time to upgrade to a VPS?

VPS hosting is typically regarded as the next step after your website has outgrown the resource constraints of shared hosting. If the most advanced shared hosting plan is no longer sufficient to keep your website running smoothly, you should consider upgrading to a VPS plan. In such cases, VPS hosting offers the best of both worlds: shared and dedicated hosting.

One of the most significant disadvantages of VPS hosting is having to manage your entire server environment on your own. You may face serious security risks and performance loss if your virtual server is not properly configured and maintained. Managed VPS hosting services have emerged as a viable solution to this issue. Consider it an improved version of VPS hosting that includes full technical support.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Virtual Private Servers

If you require a specific service, VPS hosting may be the best option for you. You can read about the benefits and drawbacks of running a virtual private server in the sections below.

Pro’s

It is more reliable and faster than a shared hosting server.
Because server resources like memory and processing power are guaranteed, there is little to no fluctuation in available resources.

Other server users’ problems and traffic surges have no effect on your site.

You are granted superuser (root) privileges on your server.

You have more privacy because your files and databases are not accessible to other server users.

It’s a simple service to scale. You can easily upgrade your server resources as your website grows (RAM, CPU, disc space, bandwidth, etc.).

Con’s

It costs more than shared hosting.

Setting up your VPS requires more technical knowledge, though there are numerous tutorials available online.

Server administration is more technically challenging than shared or cloud plans.

Improperly configured servers can lead to security flaws.

When you need more juice than Shared Hosting

A great choice for medium to high traffic, resource-intensive, and eCommerce websites, or businesses that expect rapid growth

Is VPS suitable for hosting?

VPS hosting is an excellent choice if you require a hosting service that can keep up with your rapidly expanding website. You have complete control over your server resources and, in most cases, a higher overall uptime because your server is not sharing its resources with other websites.

Is VPS suitable for hosting?
Why Do I Require VPS Hosting?

Why Do I Require VPS Hosting?

VPS hosting is essential for high-traffic websites and online stores. VPS hosting, as opposed to traditional web hosting, allows you to allocate server resources, making it easier to manage corporate websites and online stores, for example.

VPS over Shared

Because the hosting server’s resources are shared with other websites in Des Moines, Iowa, United States, a shared hosting plan is ideal for small personal websites. You get the server resources you need for a larger project in the Des Moines region, with VPS hosting and can allocate them as you see fit.

  1. A great choice

    dmw

The last time I move my Domain was 2002 and I had forgotten most of the technics. A2 was very helpful and supportive. They have a very informative support team and tons of helpful literature to read. The response time to my questions and problems was exceptional. When needed a real person to talk to and go over solving my problems.

  1. My 20 yr old account from Lunar pages…

    Dennis

My 20 yr old account from Lunar pages has many gigabytes of past test/pages and the like. HostPapa warned me for 12 months+ that auto backups were failing because I needed to buy more backup space. I didn't act because I auto build my current webpages and backup is a waste of money. The other day HostPapa logs showed they were doing so maintenance and auto restore on my account failed. I could not even ftp in. 503 on everything. Ok. filed a trouble report, did a chat, trouble ticket got pushed up to senior support and very quickly my account was restored (some mail was lost, which may be on me... I believed Microsoft Outlook kept a local copy on my mail. WRONG. Gone on website equals gone on my windows 10 machine).Bottom line, HostPapa gave me very fast can do support and fixed what I likely caused by not cleaning up my site directories. 10 out of 10.Window 10... don't get me started... have had mail issues since I moved from XP to 10. Microsoft 7 out of 10. I need to move to linux to solve them.

  2. Good Service

    David B

I like the service and tools available at HostPapa. The two and three year terms are a bit misleading, by looking at it you would assume that you have everything you need for the term you sign up for But, the domain registration is only for one year. So, you have to pay more for the remaining time, then when your term expires you renew at a much larger price. I will not be renewing for that price, when my term expires I will look elsewhere.

  1. Domain Issue

    Robert

I had a domain issue with my website and iPage support was able to diagnose and resolve the issue in a very short time. The issue prevented my website from being accessed. It only took a matter of minutes for the service representative to resolve the issue. I was very pleased with the responsiveness to get my issue resolved.

  2. It's gotten worse and worse

    joanna d

It's gotten worse and worse - had problems for MONTHS with emails, very hard to get customer support other than through online chat - and whereas we had a great introductory offer for about $71 for three years (1.99 per month), they now billed us $345.17 for the next three years. Are you kidding me????? That's by far the most expensive webhosting offer there is just about! We have three small websites with them and email - so no thanks, I'll take my business elsewhere. I understand them putting the price up, but this is ridiculous! FIVE TIMES THE ORIGINAL COST!!!! And when we had issues recently, getting GOOD technical support was almost impossible, took hours and hours, week after week problem persisted. It's time to move on, sorry Ipage.

Shashanka is quick and efficient and extremely helpful! I had an issue with my wildcard SSL which they fixed in a matter of seconds! Especially helpful becuase I am not at all tech savvy.

  2. Shady

    Amanda T

Shady, Never received a notification of auto renew. They took the payment 15 days before my renewal date then told me cancelation was not possible. I did some research through my e-mails and found that my purchase and password reset e-mails came through just fine, but auto renew notifications were directed by gmail to spam? Oddly convenient that auto renew notices flag as spam, the payment goes through, then, cancelation is against company policy even though the renewal date is still 15 days away. Shady. Absolutely shady.Even if a payment, from any other company I've ever had, if you CANCEL BEFORE your renewal date, they issue a refund. A good company, will even refund after that date if there was a mistake, backdating the service. The CSR stated they registered the domains which is why they couldn't issue a refund. In my case the renewal was still 15 days away, and the payment had not fully posted. The payment was pulled on a Sunday so the money would still take 2 business days to process. The payment could have declined from the bank for many reasons such as a non sufficient fees or a billing address mis-match. So?! Is the company, as a 3rd party, risking registering domains without receipt of payments? Or?! To avoid refunds, do they have their CSRs tell a polite lie and it had never been registered at all? Either way, it's poor business. The company response was to not return phone calls as promised, not to send email updates as promised, and to repeat their horrible auto pay policy over and over rather than do the right thing which was returning the money of an unwanted product.
