What exactly is WordPress?

WordPress, at its core, is the simplest and most popular way to create your own website or blog. WordPress, in fact, powers 43.3% of all websites on the Internet. Yes, WordPress is likely to power more than one out of every four websites you visit.

WordPress is an open-source content management system licenced under the GPLv2, which means that anyone can use or modify the WordPress software for free.

A content management system (CMS) is essentially a tool that allows you to manage important aspects of your website, such as content, without having to know anything about programming.

As a result, WordPress makes website creation accessible to anyone in Cagliari – even those who aren’t developers.

What Types of Websites Can WordPress Produce?

WordPress was once primarily used to create blogs, rather than more traditional websites. That hasn’t been the case in a long time. You can now create any type of website with WordPress thanks to changes to the core code and WordPress’ massive ecosystem of plugins and themes.

WordPress, for example, not only powers a large number of business sites and blogs, but it is also the most popular way to create an eCommerce store! WordPress allows you to create:

Websites for businesses
Online stores
Blogs
Portfolios
Resumes
Forums
Social networking sites, membership websites…

Almost anything else you can think of…

What Is the Distinction Between WordPress.org and WordPress.com?

WordPress.org, also known as self-hosted WordPress, is the free, open-source WordPress software that you can instal on your own web host to create a completely unique website.

WordPress.com is a for-profit, subscription-based service that runs on the WordPress.org software. It’s easy to use, but you lose a lot of the flexibility that comes with self-hosted WordPress.

When most people say “WordPress,” they are referring to the self-hosted WordPress available at WordPress.org. Self-hosted WordPress.org is almost always the best option if you want to truly own your website.

To get started with self-hosted WordPress, you simply need to purchase web hosting and a domain name.

Who Invented WordPress, and How Long Has It Been in Existence?

WordPress was founded in 2003 as a stand-alone project as an offshoot of a previous project known as b2/cafelog.

Because WordPress is open-source software, it is now created by a large community of contributors. But, if we go all the way back to the beginning, Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little worked together to create WordPress.

Matt Mullenweg has largely become the face of WordPress since then. He is also the founder of Automattic, the company that operates the for-profit WordPress.com service.

Between its inception as a blog platform in 2003 and today, WordPress has had a long history…

But, suffice to say, WordPress has progressed and, thanks to its contributors and large community, has become the most popular solution for creating any type of website.

What are the benefits of using WordPress?

There are numerous reasons to use WordPress regardless of the type of website you want to build. Here are a few examples:

WordPress is a free and open source platform.

One of the most significant advantages of WordPress is that it is free, open-source software. While you must pay for hosting, you will never have to pay to use the WordPress software, which is not the case with alternatives such as Squarespace.

Aside from that, there are numerous open-source plugins and themes available to alter the appearance and functionality of your website. Speaking of which….

WordPress is adaptable.

Even if you are not a developer, you can easily modify your website thanks to the vast ecosystem of WordPress themes and plugins:

Themes primarily alter the appearance of your website.

Plugins primarily alter how your website operates. Plugins can be as simple as a contact form or as complex as creating an eCommerce store.

There are currently over 50,000 free WordPress plugins and 5,000 free WordPress themes available, as well as a plethora of premium options. That is to say, you have a lot of options! Here is a selection of the best WordPress plugins.

WordPress is simple to set up.

Do you believe you must be a computer genius to create your own website? Consider again! WordPress can be installed on your site with a few mouse clicks.

Is it possible to instal WordPress on my personal computer?

Absolutely! There are several compelling reasons why you should instal WordPress on a local computer. You are creating a new website from scratch, installing a new theme or plugin, or simply want a safe environment to experiment with your existing website without fear of breaking it.

In this case, we recommend DevKinsta, a free tool that allows you to instal WordPress on your Mac or PC.

WordPress is adaptable.

We’ve already mentioned it, but WordPress is great because it allows you to create almost any type of website. Even better, your website can evolve alongside you.

Do you want to add a forum to your current WordPress site? No worries – simply instal the bbPress plugin! Do you want to include a social network? Not to worry! Simply instal the BuddyPress plugin.

You are never confined to a single set of functions; you can always adapt and evolve.

Real customer reviews

Watch out - Pricing is not accurate
Al H
Company gets you in with a super sweet deal and does not disclose that they are going to put the price up 70% on your renewal. Not an honest way to do business. IMO It is also like a Maze trying to get to the live support. Yeah you know, go through 20 menus to find it. IE they don't want you to contact them.
malicious code - not solved
Carolien K
I've been getting malicious code mentions on my website for 10 days now, almost every day.I am able to delete them, but cannot do that on a daily basis; Result, my website was taken offline.Daniel was very supportive and friendly, but was not able to solve my problem. 4**** for Daniel, * for the problem solving unfortunately.

No other provider I know has the level…
Rapha-El A
No other provider I know has the level of excellent customer service as Host Papa. I don't like chats when I want problems sorted asap. With HostPapa, however, these chaps know their stuff very well and never beat around the bush. I have found the chats very helpful. No matter what time zone I am in, they are available. The system works seamlessly anyway, but over the years, I appreciate their always being available and ready to go the extra mile.

They do the right thing...
Ronald C
Initially, I rated them a one star due to what I perceived to be a bait-and-switch sales tactic. The definition of "term" was not concrete, so I assumed it to be an annual term, billed monthly. I complained, and the sales team told me there was nothing they could do. I started moving my sites to a competitor when a sales manager from A2 contacted me to offer to extend rate for 11-months, which is what I had expected. I am delighted to say that they did the right thing for the customer. I am happy to update my review to 5 stars as every other experience with them has been outstanding. They have successfully retained me as a loyal customer for years to come.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Original post below:Read every line very carefully. I recently upgraded my service to what I thought was a 1-year term, paying monthly. WRONG. I only received a single month promotional rate. I have been a customer for years, but now I am moving to another provider.I did reach out to the company to see if they could extend the offer, but they said no. I get it, they want to stick to the legal definition in the agreement to maximize their profits. We are all in business to make money after all. They need to be clearer in their marketing to ensure the customer fully understand their definition of "term" in this regard. I viewed the "term" to be annual, since that has always been the "term" in prior service subscriptions I have had with them. The change in the definition of "term" was unanticipated leading to my shock and surprise. To make this right, their marketing department needs to shore up their process to ensure the customer fully understands what it is that they are agreeing to before committing the order and locking in the subscription. In my case, what I'd like to see is to simply extend the "term" to be 1-year instead of 1-month. If you can do that, I'll stay with A2 Hosting. If you can't, I'll be forced to look for equivalent hosting services elsewhere with terms that I understand in advance.

I wanted to set up a new domain name with my name, then my firstlastname.com and it was confusing because the setup involved my previous email Anishri really helped me to get set up, to reset password, to look through what I said was happening, and then direct me to really simple resolutions. I appreciate Anishri's patience, and expertise, and keeping me from being frustrated and just walking me through. Thank you Anishri, great job!
