When should you use a Virtual Private Server?
Starting with a VPS plan from the beginning is a good idea. eCommerce websites, for example, that require secure payments in a fast and stable environment can greatly benefit from a virtual private server. In fact, if you store sensitive data or have to process online payments, a virtual private server (VPS) can help you reduce the risk of security breaches and identity theft.
A VPS hosting plan can also be beneficial if you anticipate traffic spikes on your site at specific times, such as in the case of an event planning or ticket-selling website. Game servers, such as CS:GO or Minecraft, and other resource-intensive websites perform much better on a virtual private server.

If you’re thinking of iPage you haven’t done your homework…

If you’re thinking of iPage, you haven’t done your homework1. It’s not cheap. It’s expensive (around 5X) after the first year and then you really can’t move your site without losing your search ranking.2. It uses call centres mostly in the Philippines where language and skills are poor. I have had 2 calls recently that I have had to terminate because I couldn’t hear the operator due to loud dog barking and children screaming noise. 3. There is no vertical management of any problems. The “technician” who answers your call has no access (other than via email) to support so you won’t get your problem resolved during the call (or ver through follow up in my experience). 4. The accounts department has no knowledge of the products they are selling, only of how to activate a charge. If you enquire about a charge, they repeat what the charge was but not what for. 5. Do not use them for SEO. They are easily double the cost of any competitors and offer a very poor product. They count on baffling you (to impress) and they warn you that you will be unable to monitor/see their performance/outcomes, even during the first call. Then they schedule appointments at long intervals so that their inactivity/poor performance goes undetected. So far, 60% of my scheduled sessions have been abandoned because my technician didn’t turn up to work. Someone else calls and they freely admit they have no idea what to do. 6. Beyond the telephone options/technicians, there is no management access to resolve problems. They have no access either. They are schooled in formulaic responses but not more.I looked on their UK reviews and thought the glowing stuff might lack authenticity!!!If you post a neg review you get a robo response (see below).
